Online Electoral Roll registrations have begun

The government has begun allowing UK citizens (and UK residents from qualifying EU or Commonwealth countries), to register to vote online. Claiming to take just 5 minutes through the government’s new GOV.UK site, the process will only require a valid national insurance number or passport if you have moved abroad. The online electoral registration became available in England and Wales on the 10th June 2014, with Scotland soon to follow on the 19th of September.

40 years of postcodes: What does yours say about you?

Today we take postcodes for granted as the most essential part of our address. However, they haven't in fact been around for all that long. This April saw the 40th anniversary of UK wide postcodes, an ingenious invention that allowed for the automation of letter sorting, dramatically increasing the speed of the postal services' processes.

Register your vote this National Voter Registration Day

On the 5th February 2014 those who had not registered to vote in this country were urged to get their names on the electoral register in a push for greater political engagement by an organisation called Bite the Ballot.
